Happy Labor Day!! The 9th month of the year is upon us. With that comes the end of “summer” parties and the wrapping up of warm weather activities. But have no fear, there are still plenty of nice days left to get out and enjoy your favorite activity.
This month I would like to highlight several events that support our Annual Campaign, one of which we recently held – Summer Fest. What a spectacular evening we had with beautiful weather, great entertainment, and most importantly support from people like you. Over 125 tickets were sold and over 40 auction items and prizes were raffled off. The largest impact of the evening came when Intern, Kenny shared his story of impact with the attendees. Kenny shared his battle with bullying, depression, even suicidal thoughts, and how his “family” at the YMCA was with him and supported him every step of the way. Due to his Y Family, Kenny is now enrolled to attend one of the best Graphic Design schools in the country. Wow. Talk about tugging on your heart strings! Thank you Kenny for sharing your story and the best of luck in school!! Thank you to those who supported this event.
Our next Special Event coming up is our Annual Sporting Clays Shoot at Promise Land Hunting Preserve on Saturday, September 28th. This event truly is a Blast (pun intended)! Teams and Sponsors are still needed so please consider supporting this vent if you haven’t already. We are also raffling off a Beretta Silver Pigeon 12-Gauge Shotgun for $10/ticket. This gun is valued at over $5,000 so it is definitely worth a few tickets to try to win it. All proceeds from both Summer Fest and the Clay Shoot will go towards our Annual Campaign, which provides the financial resources to offer programs (most of which are no charge to participants) to our community which otherwise would not be offered. Examples include Livestrong, Delay the Disease, Diabetes Prevention, Stay in Motion, and Arthritis Programs to name a few. Please help us keep these programs going by supporting our events and Annual Campaign.
Lastly, on Thursday, September 5th at 6PM we will kickoff the Community Gifts portion of the Annual Campaign. It will be held in the Gymnasium at the Y so please feel free to join us (hard to turn down a free meal!). We will officially begin the Community portion of our Campaign where designated teams of volunteers will be going out into the community to tell our story. This is a significant portion of the Annual Campaign total so we again ask for your support if you are willing and able.
Have a wonderful September everyone!! Get those end of summer parties in while you still can!!
Have a great Labor Day everyone!!
