Finally, sunshine and hot weather!! We’ve waited two months for this and boy do we deserve it! The river is finally receding, pools are finally able to be used, and bikes and boats are out in full force. Welcome to summer!!
Speaking of summer, Day Camp is in full swing, with 40-50 participants coming to the Y each day of the week, taking advantage of the fun and learning we have to offer during the summer months. As I step foot on campus during the week I see kids everywhere, which is awesome!! The pool, gym, fields, and even field trips are jam packed with kids and counselors. It is the place to be!! If you haven’t yet taken advantage of this Camp, please do so right away! There is still lots of summer left!
Also to do with summer is the Summer Food Program, sponsored by the Food Bank of Greater Pittsburgh. The Y is one of many area locations that provide meals, free of charge, to those in need. Please help spread the word. We don’t want any child or family going hungry. This program is simply amazing and one that should be fully utilized all summer long. We can all do our part in feeding the hungry this summer.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to take a moment to thank our outgoing CEO, Mr. Jack Clevesy. Jack submitted his resignation on Monday, June 3rd. This Wednesday, July 3rd, Jack and his wife Andrea will depart our community for their home in North Carolina as they begin the next chapter of their lives. No one will argue the fact that we would not be where we are today without Jack’s leadership and endurance over the last 2 and a half years. Jack has turned our Y into one of the strongest, if not the strongest, in the region. Other Y’s in our area now look to the Richard G. Snyder YMCA for guidance and leadership due to the turnaround Jack has lead during his tenure here in Kittanning. Thank you for all you have done for our Community Jack!!! Although he will be missed, we are also poised for continued growth and development due to the leadership of our most awesome staff that will remain in place. Lead by Interim CEO Mr. Brad Graham, as well as many other very qualified and tenured leaders, our Y continues to thrive and be a leader within the Y-USA organization. We forge ahead each day, building on the strengths we possess. We continue to be strong and there is nothing we can’t accomplish when we all work together.
