Happy Labor Day! Seriously? Wow. Where did the Summer go? I hope everyone has a fun-filled holiday weekend as we wind down summer vacation. I don’t know about you but I am ready for the kids to start back to school!
Last Friday night, August 24th, we celebrated our Y’s accomplishments by holding our Annual Summerfest fundraiser. Hosted by Jeff and Stacey Rood (thank you Jeff & Stacey!!), we had an awesome evening of great food and drinks, auctions, door prizes, raffles, wonderful fellowship, a mission moment, excellent entertainment, dancing, and most importantly, FUN! The event was the most successful in our history, raising over $14,000 towards our Annual Campaign. A HUGE Thank You to the Special Events Committee, chaired by Jeff Rood, and all the Board Members, Staff, and volunteers who made this event possible. What a testament to all your hard work!!
Speaking of the Annual Campaign, we will officially kick off on Thursday, September 6th at the Y, with a fundraising goal of $85,000 in front of us. All are welcome to attend!! Our community faces some significant challenges:
- Youth and Adult Obesity
- Erosion of Social and Emotional supports resulting in negative youth behaviors
- Changing Family Structures
- Lack of programs for troubled youth
- Chronic Disease
- Affordable Child Care
- Need for affordable housing/Homelessness/Drug abuse prevention
With our mission focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Richard G. Snyder YMCA Campus is perfectly positioned to help alleviate these issues. In order to take on these challenges in our community, it will take people of caring, compassion and commitment who realize that a vibrant, mission-focused YMCA in their community ensures that everyone has the opportunity to live, grow, thrive, and belong. Our Annual Campaign is the cornerstone of our charitable mission. Your ability to learn and tell our story. . .beyond the scope of gym and swim. . .will make certain that we continue the programs and services to impact those in our community. Thank you in advance for your continued support of our efforts!
Have a great September everyone!!
