Meet Linda, one of our fantastic fitness instructors. She can be found teaching Hustle & Muscle in the studio on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00-10:00 AM. She has been a fitness instructor at our Y for 10+ years and even taught through a battle with cancer. She is truly an inspiration to all who have come in contact with her. Please take a few minutes to read her story and if you see her around, be sure to give her a huge “Thank you” for her dedication to the Y.
“My journey began with my diagnosis with triple positive breast cancer in Oct. 2015 after I felt a lump (my mammogram the previous April didn’t show anything), 18 weeks of chemo from Nov. 2015 to March 2016, two surgeries in April 2016, 30 radiation treatments last summer, and one year of Herceptin treatments, which ended Nov. 2016. I was pronounced to have no evidence of cancer in my scans in January. I’m taking an anti-estrogen pill for at least five years, which will help to keep any further cancer at bay.
I’m so thankful for the advances in modern medicine which have given me such a good prognosis. I’m very thankful for the support of my friends and family and for our wonderful YMCA, which has supported me through my friends there and through my fitness classes and of course, pickleball, which were so helpful in keeping me active and giving me more physical and emotional energy as I went through the toughest times of my treatment. The ladies in my classes and the pickleball gang are like family. I felt their support and love throughout my treatment. I love my YMCA and all the wonderful people there! (And of course, I met my guy over two years ago while playing pickleball at the Y.”
